The Mad Wolf is Billy's racing machine since F-Zero X. Built in the same lab that raised Billy, it was designed specifically for Billy to operate. Since Billy has limited recognition for the written language, the machine instead emits various things to stimulate Billy's senses based on the Mad Wolf's surroundings, such as pictures, colors, sounds, and smells. The Mad Wolf has above-average body and boost with an average grip.

Profiles and statistics

F-Zero X

The concept for this project was to design a machine a monkey could operate. Because Billy has limited written-language recognition, the design lab implemented a navigation system that operates with the assistance of pictures, colors, sounds and smells. For instance, in track locations where it is suitable to accelerate quickly, the smell of bananas (Billy's absolute favorite thing) is emitted into the cockpit, thereby exciting him and making him press the accelerator.

F-Zero: GP Legend

The Mad Wolf becomes available after clearing all challenges in S-Class Zero Test. It has good cornering and a good top speed with a slightly slow acceleration.

F-Zero Climax

The Mad Wolf becomes available after winning the bronze cup on master overall.

Design and namesake

Design

The Mad Wolf takes on a compact and effective design. There are two rounded edges on the sides with streamlined ends connected to the centerpiece. On the very back of the wings are streamlined fins. In the very front is the cockpit placed right above a cooling vent. Lined up with the cockpit is a covered area that houses the machine's components and the engine while having another cooling vent on top. In the very back under the engines are exhaust vents with burn marks. The machine's primarily yellow in color.

Name

The Mad Wolf combines the words mad, a term to describe something as angry or crazy and wolf, a large, predatory canine.

Correlation

The mad aspect of Mad Wolf primarily relates to Billy's expressions usually portrayed as a maniacal scowl. The design doesn't particularly match that of a wolf, but rather is meant to be related to a wolf's fast speed while also relating to Billy's highly aggressive driving.

Differences between games

In F-Zero X, the Mad Wolf's wings had brown stripes and were streamlined. The wings would later be redesigned to resemble bananas in F-Zero GX. Strengthening the resemblance are the vented, brown-orange frontal tips resembling a banana's flower tip. Later, starting in F-Zero: GP Legend, the wings would straighten out, and be free of any decals. The fins were triangular and yellow in every game except for GX, where they were curved and brown-orange. The engine count doubled in GP Legend and had them stacked vertically.
