The Blood Hawk (called the Hell Hawk in Japanese games) is Blood Falcon's racing machine in the F-Zero series since F-Zero X. Originally, the Blood Hawk was designed similarly to the Blue Falcon, but the boost was increased when the developers, the BS Group, realized they wouldn't defeat Captain Falcon with his own machine. The main engine was designed by the BS Group, but the secondary engine was looted from the Blue Falcon at the time of the accident four years ago. The Blood Hawk's boost is strong with an above-average body, but its grip is weak.

Profiles and statistics

At first, the Blood Hawk was to be designed with capabilities identical to those of the Blue Falcon. However, the designers knew they wouldn't be able to conquer their old rival Captain Falcon with an identical machine, so they increased the Blood Hawk's boost power. In doing so, they were forced to forego some grip power. The main engine was designed by the engineers in the secret lab of the BS Group, and the secondary engine is one they looted from the Blue Falcon at the time of the great accident four years ago.

F-Zero: GP Legend

The Blood Hawk becomes available after clearing the platinum cup on expert. It has an extremely fast acceleration and boost, however its weak grip may make it difficult to take some turns, but makes it ideal for drifting.

F-Zero Climax

The Blood Hawk becomes available after winning the silver cup on standard overall.

Design and namesake

Design

The Blood Hawk is one of the more sleek and aerodynamic machines. Its body is primarily rectangular with a downward streamlined hood that has a cooling vent. In the very front of the car is a dotted grille with two headlights on the sides. Right in the middle is the canopy that stretches the entire width of the car. Behind it are three vents; two funnels on the sides with the car's name written in white and one scoop in the center. In the back are two short fins. The engines are arranged horizontally with the two DS engines in the dead center and the two BF engines on the outer ends. It's a vibrant red with a yellow nose. It has a slight resemblance to a Ferrari F50.

Name

The Blood Hawk is comprised of the words blood, a vital body fluid usually colored red and hawk, a predatory bird of prey. Its Japanese name replaces Blood with Hell, an afterlife location in which evil souls are subject to torment.

Correlation

From the color of the machine, the Blood Hawk emphasizes the blood portion very well. As for the Japanese name, Hell is most often associated with red and also relates to Blood Falcon's ruthless driving style. Most of the machine's body barely correlates with the hawk aspect however as it lacks many defining features to that of the bird it's named after.

Differences between games

The Blood Hawk in F-Zero X originally didn't have the dotted grille and had the underside of the front streamlined. F-Zero GX included rounded corners on the front of the car. Moving into F-Zero: GP Legend onward made the vehicle more slim and removed the rear fins.

Trivia

  • The Blood Hawk's number is likely a reference to Captain Falcon's number and how Blood Falcon is a clone of him. (2+5=7)
  • The Blood Hawk is one of three machines having two different makes of engines built into the machine. The others being the Deep Claw and the Groovy Taxi.
  • Despite being a Japan exclusive game, F-Zero Climax still refers the machine to Blood Hawk rather than Hell Hawk.
  • The Blood Hawk's alternate colors in F-Zero X and F-Zero GX make it resemble different colors of blood commonly found in other sci-fi series.
