Status: Fairly active. Other priorities are taking...priority, but I'm still around and can be contacted. Will be days where I just don't show up.
Current project: Fix everything.
RULES
  1. Standard F-Zero Wiki rules apply, of course. No spamming, trolling, vandalizing, removing comments, etc. Please follow the rules, your comment will get removed otherwise. You don't have to sign your comments here, but it'll make it easier for me to get back to you if you do.
  2. No swearing or obscenity. These words will get edited out ASAP.
  3. Please don't ask why I reverted or corrected your edit. Usually, I have a good reason and can back it up. Take a look at my contributions or the page history for more information regarding your edit, if available. If you must, you can ask for clarification, but only if you provide more than "Why did you delete my edit?!" (which will get removed).
  4. Questions about my Power Master games and/or YouTube videos are fine. There are other places for those kinds of talk, of course, but I don't mind them on here.
  5. If you have questions regarding a different wiki, please post on my talk page there. If you're here to complain about a block I gave you on other wikis, your comment will be removed.
  6. I'm a friendly guy and am willing to engage in friendly conversation, so long as the sections don't become too excessive.
  7. I will archive once this talk page reaches 100 messages. Please do not make any message telling me to archive. It's a waste of a notification, and it will be removed.
  8. I'm all for helping for with games, so long as I own it or the guide! Otherwise, I probably won't be able to help much.

F-Zero GX Nintendo Power Guide

I used to have the F-Zero GX guide, which you say you have. I remember it covering Chapter 7 and Chapter 8. Does it say anything about the two below screenshots and what that red stuff is called? I don't think this hazard appears anywhere else in the game, aside from an explosion left-over from a mine. The instruction manual has nothing. I'm calling it lava until I can confirm the name. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 06:03, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for verifying. Maybe a scan of the page(s) uploaded could be good as a way to source information when I create the page. I have had thoughts merging with crater, because they behave the same way, and it's the official name found in Nintendo Power Advance. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:12, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
I only wanted a scan so I can see the page(s) for myself, although using [[Media:Page Scans.jpg]] would be a nice plus for the article. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 22:21, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
FZGX Chapter 7.pngFZGX Chapter 8.png

Seeing those scans, there are machine part details and unlock details for the AX machines. It would make for great inclusions for F-Zero Shop machine parts, and AX machine pages. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 03:39, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Oh, you can use the guide to add additional names for Category:Obstacles. For one instance, mine isn't in the instruction manual, but I grouped it with the rest of them. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 09:02, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Does the guide say anything about lasers? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 06:08, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

In Save Jody!, there are orange canisters. Does the guide say anything what they are called? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 16:47, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
Dumb me. Orange was chapter 1. Green was what I was referring to. I don't see blue so why the guide says that, I don't know. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 18:08, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Alternate Costumes

Since you started uploading them, the alternate costume textures I had no idea where Spriter's Resource was finding them. Turns out, Pilot Profiles mode if you press L or R before the 3D model version loads (holding cycles through them quickly). I just dumped the textures in Dolphin and got the same pixel data. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 04:53, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

I wish Model's Resource had the machines up, so I could upload the different color schemes. I suppose screen capturing and cropping the machine and pilot together is an option. Alex95 (talk) 14:07, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
I would use Dolphin itself for the renders. Using external programs could make the machines look weird due to different lighting conditions. 3D rendering is just like that. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 18:14, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, getting an image from in game would work and look best. You know how I am with emulators, though, but it will be a while before I can upload those images consistently since I only have like seven machines unlocked. Alex95 (talk) 18:31, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

RE: Character Appearances Inconsistencies

You are right. Deathborn only appeared in F-Zero GX. I would look at {{pilots}} because I haven't found anything wrong there. However, if the racer appeared in F-Zero X, then they appear in F-Zero GX, F-Zero: GP Legend, and F-Zero Climax. F-Zero pilots, all except F-Zero: Maximum Velocity and BS F-Zero. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 08:35, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Maps

I know my map uploads broke the thumbnail previewer and you were trying to fix it for FZ and FZMV, but I did let Serpent King (talk · contributions) know prior so someone can fix the internal software settings like Porplemontage on MarioWiki. I left it in that state on purpose. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 08:48, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Renames Needed

Category:Pages needing renaming, I tagged some articles needing renaming. The anime episodes have English official names, which there was 15 overall. The remaining 36 were never released outside Japan. I am not too familiar with the anime, but this is what information I could dig up, from IMDb. I generally avoid anime because it is not my style. Anyways, {{F-Zero: GP Legend (anime)}}, I don't know what the episode names are for the 36 other episodes. If I knew, it could push some articles up the list in Special:WantedPages. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 19:16, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Okay, I'll get to it once I'm done with some home stuff. Alex95 19:28, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Could you also review the four remaining articles in the category? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:40, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Boosting: Looks like it needs a source. Once a source is found, that will determine the course of action.
  • Death Soldier: I don't know enough about this guy. Again, a source would be helpful.
  • Double Tap Dive: Can be moved to match Side Attack, sure.
  • The Creators: This is their actual name, so I don't think a move is necessary since they differ from other basic Staff Ghosts, seeing as they have characters to it.
Alex95 22:02, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Well, duh, GX actually calls it "Boost" in game. I'll go ahead and move that one, too. Alex95 22:09, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Boost probably has a source from an instruction manual or Demonstration or something.
  • In-game says Dark Soldier, not Death Soldier.
  • OK.
  • The Creators was a lore way to explain what a Staff Ghost is. Also, in-game files for the story mode are ghost replays. Also, the Time Attack staff ghosts and ghosts you can create look the same as they do in story.
--Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 22:37, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Okay, moved Death Soldier. The Staff Ghost page should probably be created with more information then, with The Creators becoming a redirect. Alex95 22:54, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

I got one more move request (and possibly a merge due to the article being too short) and that is F-Max Ruins. I checked F-Zero GX Pilot Profiles mode for The Skull and the specific capitalization is F-MAX. I am not sure where F-Max is stated anywhere in F-Zero media. However, no need to delete the redirect for the lower case version. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 16:40, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

If the ruins are a separate track, it shouldn't need a merge. Just needs more information. Alex95 16:54, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
I am not sure at all where the ruins information comes from. It could be an article of conjecture. It should be treated like pages on MarioWiki with "List of implied". Tread lightly. Also stub articles on F-Zero Wiki are considered short articles and not incomplete articles. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 17:49, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Okay, so it turns out that the article was created by an IP who was going off on some fangame or something. The Ruins track is very likely a fan-created article and should be deleted outright. Alex95 17:55, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Dragon Bird EX need a move. I have no idea where EX comes from because the game says GT. That also means that Blue Falcon EX needs deleting. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 03:00, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Did you mean Blue Falcon GT? Alex95 03:08, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
No. I guess I didn't realize that the EX page wasn't created ever. I guess this issue is resolved. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 18:23, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Template Delete

{{stubsec}} can be deleted because {{stub}} exists and has the proper coding to handles articles and sections. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 23:18, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Done. Alex95 23:30, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Markup Cleanup

I am seeing some instances of nothing appearing after a colon of an Interwiki link, which is messing with Special:WantedPages. What I am doing is adding Main Page (Main Page). Two pages I can't edit:

There could be more not relating to Tetris Wiki. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 22:25, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Fixed those, and the Dragon Quest one too. Alex95 22:44, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Interwiki Changes Screwed Up CSS

MediaWiki:Common.css needs updating because you changed ZeldaWiki (here), and it is no longer applying CSS styles for outbound interwiki links to ZeldaWiki, like on Shigeru Miyamoto.

Another good idea would be to use File:ARMSWikiLink.png for ARMS Wiki to add to the CSS.

Yet another good idea might be to have a {{fzerowiki-image}} template, similar to that of mariowiki:Template:Mariowiki-image, but I can't modify the relevant files in Special:UnusedFiles, Special:NewFiles/500, and Category:Wiki files.

These seem like good ideas. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 01:05, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Updated css, so hopefully that works. Not sure if the template is necessary considering how little wiki-based images there are here compared to the Mario Wiki (some of them aren't even used anymore, and I'm not sure what their purpose was), but I'll bring it up and see what the others have to say. Alex95 01:19, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
With special coding, I can stop some images from appearing in Special:UnusedFiles. Also, we can track what images are wiki-specific images and not just images for articles, since it is its own maintenance category, which is up to the staff to keep or delete images of this type. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 01:25, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Regarding the non-interwiki images, they'll likely be deleted soon, because I'm not finding where any of them are used/they are outdated. If you have a code that can make the interwiki images stop appearing in unused files, then let me see it and I'll see what it can do :) Alex95 01:36, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
The code is template-based, and was used on mariowiki:Template:Shroom-image and mariowiki:Template:Not-unused. Since I am suggesting borrowing the template idea from MarioWiki, I thought I combine the code from the three MarioWiki templates into one, to create {{fzerowiki-image}} and having the new template use Category:Wiki files, so it can be used on F-Zero Wiki images. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 01:55, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Maybe. Alex95 02:02, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
For sure, these files need Category:Wiki files. I can't edit because they are protected. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 17:21, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Okay, will get to them in a bit. Alex95 17:23, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

Ever thought of adding TCRF, like MarioWiki? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 05:12, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, TCRF isn't a part of NIWA, rather it's a Super Mario Wiki affiliated site. Alex95 18:06, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
There is a lot of valuable information to link to that could be beneficial to F-Zero Wiki, despite not being NIWA. I don't just want to copypasta pages from the website. For now, it is better to link to the website, and best to do it through Interwiki. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 19:06, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
A standard url link is also acceptable. But I'll see. Alex95 19:23, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
URLs are messy, and I can't add them because of the broken CAPTCHA. Adding a non-NIWA wiki to the Interwiki with a goal of uncovering content not meant to be seen by regular players would be a good thing for this wiki, especially citations later down the line. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:06, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Hopefully the CAPTCHA will be corrected soon. And I'm not sure on adding TCRF to the interwiki. I shouldn't just keep adding sites for the sake of adding them. And as for the above mentioned template, the others have said no. Alex95 23:14, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
I wouldn't recommend just random wikis for the Interwiki table. They have to serve a good purpose. In this case, TCRF can provide some hidden content (as well as regional differences) within each game of the F-Zero franchise. On a side note unrelated to F-Zero Wiki, TCRF should look to be a NIWA partner, even though they have non-Nintendo content as well as Nintendo content. That hasn't stopped StrategyWiki, just for a wiki that has both Nintendo and non-Nintendo content. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 00:54, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Regarding a NIWA partnership, we have to actually talk to the head admin there. I agree that TCRF interwiki would be helpful, but I keep bugging the others with requests and want to wait a day or two before I bug them again :P Alex95 00:59, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Who says we need to establish a partnership with them first before adding a site to the Interwiki table? I was under the impression that Interwiki could be used to establish easy and clean links to other wikis, compared to the URL linking that just looks ugly with the arrow icon, if we can help it by not using that method. Take Wikipedia. I don't think F-Zero Wiki is partnered with them and it's part of the Interwiki table. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 01:32, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
It has been added :) Wikipedia's sort of like the main one, though, so everything links to it regardless anyway :P Alex95 17:43, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for adding. At the time of adding, the website went down, but I guess it's temporary, so I can't test the newly added links. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 18:22, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Deleting Red Link Redirects

Not sure why you are deleting those redirects. It just boosts the ranks of the pages they point to in Special:WantedPages. The article the redirects are pointing to will eventually be created. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 02:24, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Eventually, sure, but not now. There's no point in creating a redirect if the page they're directing to doesn't exist. Alex95 02:36, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Just Occurred To Me

For the longest time, I was wondering why User:SuperHamster/mainpage.js was appearing in Category:Candidates for deletion. I figured it out. It seems that the intended JavaScript is being interpreted by MediaWiki as well. There is a spot where "{{delete|Redirect created as vandalism}}" is. Split that up, like this: "{" + "{delete|Redirect created as vandalism}}". I think that should fix that issue. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 16:54, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed that myself, but since it's a personal JavaScript page, I didn't want to edit it. I'll send word to him, though, see what he does or says. Alex95 17:11, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
I didn't think he was active enough to get the job done, so I came to you. If I had the admin privileges, I would have just performed the minor edit. I respect pages for personal use, but once it starts interfering with the main wiki operations (like in this case), I'll perform the necessary edits while still preserving the original look/functionality as much as possible. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 17:20, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
I wouldn't make the edit without permission anyway, as that would be a violation of privacy, no matter how minor. And it's not exactly interfering with anything. Yeah, it's showing up in Category:Candidates for deletion, but the page is preventing the category from showing up in Special:UnusedCategories (I guess that makes it helpful?). It's a coding quirk, but we know not to delete it. Alex95 17:35, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
The page isn't private if anyone can see it due to how MediaWiki is coded, but asking permission trumps anything we can do, if not a rule, but out of respect, but it begs the question of just cause to just do it anyway. How should such rules be defined? I feel there should be exceptions to bypassing asking permission to edit user pages, but these exceptions have to be very specific. However, this isn't a huge issue right now. It's just something to think about for later and keep in the back of our minds. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 17:56, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
He has given me the go-ahead to just remove the coding altogether, but it's a respect thing. I'm not going to edit someone else's user pages if all there is are broken coding. If it's not violating any rules, it's unnecessary, and I'm sure the other admins on various other sites would agree. Do you know how many broken file links there are on inactive user pages on the Mario Wiki? Just because an admin deletes the images doesn't mean they'll go through and edit everyones' pages to correct them. User pages are on a watchlist, and editing them would give the user a pointless notification. Alex95 18:04, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
That one plug-in "UserPageEditProtection" has caused more harm than good. MarioWiki's Wanted Files is a mess. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 18:22, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Mach Rider

X and Star Fox information

I am kind of skeptical that Mach Rider should be an article on F-Zero Wiki. I believe that the article was created on the terms of circumstantial evidence rather than that of Nintendo directly linking Mach Rider to F-Zero, such as Iwata Asks being a good source or something. Unless some direct evidence from Nintendo can surface, do you think it should be deleted along with the images? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 19:14, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

tbh, having played Mach Rider, I don't see the connection at all. I'll look around and see if I can find anything, but if not, article should definitely go. Alex95 19:48, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
There are a few instances in Wikipedia that connect Mach Rider to F-Zero, but the only actual "source" I can find is an IGN interview where Lucas M. Thomas says that Mach Rider helped influence the F-Zero game: http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/07/18/mach-rider-review While an influence is possible, outright claiming that Mach Rider is a spiritual successor to F-Zero is speculative. A statement of some kind can be said about Mach Rider's influence on the F-Zero page, but the Mach Rider page is out of place. Alex95 20:08, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
That isn't an interview but a review of Mach Rider, which means it's an opinion piece, not a piece about fact. The only official link between Mach Rider and F-Zero is the music in SSB, but SSB4 put the music on Wrecking Crew instead of a stage based off of F-Zero. This suggests to me that Masahiro Sakurai used it as a theme that matched the atmosphere of fighting on a track more so than it being related to F-Zero. This theory may hold water as Mario Bros. uses non-Mario tracks that the games they were based off of have nothing to do with Mario or Mario Bros.. However, the same can't be said about Tunnel Scene (X) on Lylat Cruise because the programmer behind X also programmed Star Fox, Argonaut Games. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:21, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
I meant review sorry, stupid brain :P As far as I can tell, there is no official connect between the two games. But if a valid source pops up one day, I can undelete the page and all is well. Alex95 21:44, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

Sidebar

Should MediaWiki:Sidebar or whatever link to Category:Gameplay? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:33, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

Nevermind, I figured out how it works. Now the question is should it stay? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:35, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
I guess we are in agreement. Keep it as-is. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 05:12, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Signature

Just created {{nosubst}} from MarioWiki, so that way raw code isn't inserted when ~~~ is specified. Just be sure your signature preferences follow the template guidelines, else raw code will still happen (User:Alex95/sig). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk · contributions) 04:49, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
